Fall 2016 Semester Goals

Ever since I started this blog back in June of 2015, I’ve written out my goals for each semester. There’s just something about solidifying my goals in a blog post that makes me more likely to complete them. This semester is no different, and the outcomes of my goals have definitely changed since last year. I’m focusing more on improving myself both mentally and physically instead of the social aspects of my life.

I was so focused on school and doing well last year, that I let my mental health fall. Instead of letting myself fall back into that place, I’ve set goals to keep me motivated, happy, and involved. After all, if I’m not happy with myself, how can I be truly happy around other people? Not only am I working on improving myself, I also have a ton of fun things lined up this semester! I can’t wait to see how everything turns out.

Keep up with my gym routine

If you’ve been reading this blog for the past couple of months, you know that I’ve become slightly addicted to fitness and working out. After gaining 10 pounds my freshman year and feeling awful about how I looked, my dad offered to get me a trainer for the summer. Not only did I lose almost all of those 1o pounds, but I also gained the knowledge and confidence to head to the weight room at the gym. Maintaining my 3-5 gym sessions a week is ultimately what I’m aiming for to keep my confidence high and my mental state happy.

Go to brunch monthly

What a goal, right?  This is a cover for me to force myself to get out of my dorm and explore some awesome places that Columbia has to offer. I’ve already been to brunch twice this semester with my amazing friend Rebecca, and we’re so ready to go more! But, I’m limiting us to once a month because my wallet can’t afford weekly brunch dates.

Make all A’s and B’s

This is always a goal of mine every semester. I know I set high standards for myself in everything I do – work, school, this blog, friends – and this is just another one of those. I know that this semester is going to be a huge change from what I’m used to, but I still want to aim to make all A’s and B’s.

No procrastination

I was actually really good about this last year. I would set my own due dates for assignments a few days prior to when they were actually due, and it made sure I had them done and had time to look back over the work. I’m going to strive to do this again this semester.

I am working in residence life this year as a resident mentor, and it’s definitely added some stress to my schedule, but it’s also been the best month of my life. I have a great floor, great coworkers, and great supervisors.

Host two non-mandated events

I’m only setting one goal for residence life this semester because I don’t want to over-commit myself. Of course I’m going to strive to get to know my entire floor and help them develop a home here at Carolina, but I also want to help them bond with each other. Although we have required floor meetings every few weeks or so, I want to host a few events myself. Movie night, cookies & board games, cupcakes… I don’t know exactly what I’m wanting to do, but I just want to do something!

What are some of your goals for the upcoming semester? Do you set goals per semester or per year? Whatever your goals are, you’ve got this!

  • Those are great goals! I tend to let my mental health fall as well, so I’m definitely going to try to fix that in my goals for the upcoming semester!

    • Thanks 🙂 It’s so easy to let your mental health fall during the school year. My cycle is stress eating, feeling bad about the way I look because of the weight I gained from stress eating, and then instead of doing something positive about it, I’ll eat more food. That is NOT happening this semester!

  • Love these goals! I might have to copy the brunch one, that’s too cute 🙂 I really want to go to Zumba on a weekly basis this year!

    • I mean what blogger doesn’t love brunch?? Going to Zumba weekly is such a great goal! I’ve never been one for exercise classes, but maybe I should try one soon.

  • I love the idea of a monthly brunch! Too bad I spend most of my weekends actually working a brunch shift…womp womp! Congrats on getting back into the gym regularly this summer. That’s no easy feat! Enjoy your start to the semester 🙂

    • Thank you so much! I just found a new brunch spot to try out next month and I’m so excited!

  • I think the monthly brunch idea is a great way to help explore your city. Plus, you get to try all the delicious food around. I hope you will do a post about your favorite brunch places. 🙂

    • I totally want to do a favorite brunch spot post! I’ve already gone to two places in Columbia but forgot to take pictures before I ate the food…. guess I’m just going to have to go back!
