There’s something to be said for having a platform to keep you accountable when it comes to your fitness journey. It’s so easy to fall off track because “oh no one is going to know I didn’t go to the gym today”, “no one will know I ate these three doughnuts”, “I really don’t feel up for the gym today but that’s okay because it’s not like anyone is counting on me.” Do you know what can fix all of that? A support network. Maybe it’s not a best friend or your parents. Maybe it’s some random people on the internet who are looking forward to your content every day and are going to support you through it all.

Instagram is becoming an ever-popular option people are turning to in order to keep themselves accountable. But you know what I think is an even better option? A blog. Okay yes I may be a little biased because blogging did change my life, but honestly, there’s so much more to be said with blog content than Instagram posts.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve received several emails regarding WordPress theme development, how on earth I developed my own theme, and any tips and tricks I have to make theme development a bit easier for the novice web developer. By no means am I a professional web developer, but I do have a background in web design and HTML/CSS, so I thought I’d share with you my step-by-step process for developing my own WordPress theme!
When I first became self-hosted back in June, I was thrilled at the opportunity to have complete creative freedom in regards to how my site looked. Custom colors, custom layouts, custom everything! But, when I started browsing sites to purchase themes, those $50+ price tags scared me off and there was no way that I was going to drop that amount of money on a theme that I probably could build myself.

Two thousand and sixteen was definitely the year of the blog. Somehow I turned my blog from a small side project receiving 2,000 views a month to a life-consuming passion reaching 20,000+ people a month. I’ve invested hundreds if not thousands of hours into this blog in 2016, and I can definitely say that it’s paid off. Not only has my blog blossomed this year, I’ve become friends with so many bloggers!
I’ve had a few weeks to compile all this data, and honestly it’s amazing. This blog is a representation of setting your mind to something, dedicating yourself to it, and seeing it thrive and prosper. In 2016 I became self-hosted, landed my first sponsored post, finally figured out my branding, developed my own WordPress theme, received countless emails from readers, and found myself. So, to sum up 2016, I thought I’d show you my overall stats, my most popular posts, and set some goals for 2017.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!! I hope you’re having an amazing day full of family, friends, and amazing food! In case you didn’t know, Cathleen from Classy Cathleen and I put together a Blogger Secret Santa this year, and I’m proud to say that we had over 25 people participate. It was such a success and I’m so excited to reveal to you who my Secret Santa was and see everyone else’s Secret Santa reveals!
This year’s Blogger Secret Santa came about because I begged Cathleen to host another one after I had so much fun participating in last year’s. She graciously allowed me to help her host the 2016 edition of the Blogger Secret Santa, and I can honestly say that I had a blast organizing all of it. After about a week of working on countless Google Docs and Google Sheets, we finally launched, and I was so excited to see so many amazing bloggers wanting to participate. Just like last year, all of the participants reveal their Secret Santa on Christmas Day (aka today) at 10 AM EST. I’m going to try my best to include links to everyone’s Secret Santa reveal posts at the end of this post, so definitely make sure you check out their reveals! KEEP READING “And My Secret Santa Is…”

First off, let’s talk about what Blogmas and Vlogmas are. Essentially, Blogmas and Vlogmas are a 25 day challenge for online content creators. There’s no official requirements, but you’re supposed to publish something every single day from December 1st until Christmas Day (aka December 25th). It’s content full of holiday goodness and festive fun! I’m not quite sure where the idea originated, but people are integrating the challenge on so many different social platforms – blogs, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, you name it. Y’all I love blogging so much. I’m writing this late on a Sunday night after the second Blogger Roundtable, and honestly I couldn’t be happier. Blogging has changed my life and being able to talk face to face with the people who motivate and inspire me is one of the greatest feelings in the world. You may be asking yourself, “What is this post even about?” and “What on earth is the Blogger Roundtable?” I’ve spoken a little bit about it in the past on Twitter, in monthly recaps, and on my YouTube channel, but today I wanted to dedicate a whole post to a project that I’ve fallen in love with.
I was inspired to start the Blogger Roundtable back in July after participating in so many Twitter chats but always wanting to talk face-to-face with other bloggers. Talking behind Twitter handles is great and convenient, but there’s just something about actually seeing the person you’re talking to. And with that, the Blogger Roundtable was born. I chatted with a few other bloggers about the idea, and everyone seemed to love it.
