My 18th Birthday!
July 9, 1997. A rainy Wednesday. Also my birthday. And today (yes, not actually today. I am lazy and did not upload this post on my birthday) I turned 18! The age where one can get a tattoo, and buy lottery tickets, and get a job almost anywhere.
I had already decided that I was going to take the day off from working out. I was exhausted, and my body needed a break. Even though I wasn’t working out, I still woke up around 8:30 because my friend Madison and I were going to go get doughnuts! Waking up early and going and getting Krispy Kreme doughnuts is a tradition in my house. There’s nothing like a hot, fresh doughnut that melts in your mouth; they were delicious. Stores and restaurants love to give away free things for birthdays, so I had a free drink at Starbucks! Starbucks and doughnuts, how stereotypical can I even be?
Before dropping my friend back off at her house, I drug along with me to Target. Neither of us ended up buying anything, but we just wandered for about an hour. I mean I can wander around in Target like all day. At this point, it was around noon, and Madison needed to go back home.
My dad took a half day at work and came home early to take me to go get new running shoes! That was my major gift. It took us about two hours to finally find shoes, and I love them. They make working out so much more comfortable. My old shoes were from the seventh grade. The seventh grade. Six years old. It was time for some new shoes.
Sadly, my dad and brother had to go to a swim meet, and my mom had to work late, so we weren’t able to go out on my birthday. We did, however, go out the night before to celebrate. I was also lucky enough to open my gifts the night before as well. The night of my birthday, I went to Chick-fil-a for dinner. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Chick-fil-a at any time of the day, especially as a birthday dinner. Thank you to the coupon I received after graduation.
That night, my mom and I went to Target. Again. Yes, I know. It’s a problem. This time I did get some things. More college things!
And that, my friends, was my 18th birthday. Very laid back and relaxed, but fun!
