College Goals: Freshman Year

College Goals Freshman Year @ the University of South Carolina

College. No parents, few rules, and a huge responsibility. I’ve been waiting to go to college for years now, craving independence and freedom. I think with any new experience, I always have goals in mind. What am I looking to get out of this experience? Well, my friends, today I have my college goals for you! Some of these may be completely unreasonable, but sometimes you have to dream big, right?

Make new friends.

I’ve had the same group of friends all through middle school and high school. Truth is, I’ve never actually had to make new friends in a long time. Usually it’s just quick acquaintances at camp or orientation, but these are possibly life-long friendships that I’m about to create.

Get involved!

I really want to get the most out of my experience here. I didn’t join any clubs or organizations in high school. Nothing really floated my boat, and everything was super cliquey. Just being here for almost a week and a half, I’ve already found things I want to do! And, I’m going to be able to incorporate my passion for web and graphic design.

Breaking out of my comfort zone.

Now, I’m not talking about partying and drinking, because quite frankly, that’s just not what I enjoy. I’m talking about meeting new people and putting myself out there trying not to care how people perceive me.

Be OK with living and doing things on my own.

Going places alone terrifies me, even if it’s just to walk 10 minutes to go get the mail. Eating alone freaks me out as well.

Become more patient and not stress over little things.

I’m notorious for stressing over tiny details. It can be helpful but also really damaging to relationships. I want to let go and have fun. I’ve already had a bit of stress this semester and my advisor gave me the best piece of advice. She said,”Abigail, there’s no need to have a breakdown over classes. The only time you should be that stressed out is when you are given two months to live or the IRS is after you.” Maybe that should be on a canvas or something, haha.

Those are the things that I hope to achieve in college. I didn’t add any academic goals because I feel like I need more work on the social aspect of my life. What are your college goals? Or even just goals in general? I love hearing from you!

Taking some time outside of CrossFit to drill down and focus on my weightlifting technique. Snatches and cleans have always been a little intimidating and I’ve been scared to push myself on them for fear of injury. Looking forward to seeing how my lifts progress over the next few months!

Oh, and mental health is doing fantastically, too!

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and we’re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! It’s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine 💁‍♀️

I was 9 months in to my fitness journey, tracked macros like it was my job, and religiously went to the gym 5-6 days a week. Seeing this pop up in my “Memories” was just what I needed today because being stuck at home because of my susceptibility to lung problems and #covid_19 has left me highly unmotivated to workout...
