So skincare and makeup have become some of my top priorities in 2018. Over the past six to eight months, my skin has been hating me and I live with consistent breakouts. It’s no fun to wake up in the morning and look in the mirror just to see the next colony of pimples that have decided to take up my face as their place of residence.
I also really love makeup, and I find the process of applying makeup very therapeutic. Over the past year, I became #obsessed with the gym (and don’t get me wrong, I still am), but I noticed my appearance became that typical gym-goer who lived in workout clothes and no makeup. I loved that because it was so easy and carefree, but I wanted to look a little more presentable on a regular basis.
I’ve been investing in skincare and makeup for the past month or so, and I thought I’d share with you some of my recent purchases! Also, my boyfriend got me a copy of Lightroom so I really just wanted to take pictures and mess around with editing them, LOL.
First things first: moisturizer.
I’m pretty sure the moisturizers I had been using were a cause of my face breaking out, so I decided to switch things up. I’m 20 years old, and I’ve been told all my life that the sooner you start with anti-aging products, the better off your skin will be.
I was perusing the skincare aisle at Target and all the other anti-aging moisturizers were like $25+! Y’all I don’t have that kind of money. So, when I found these from L’Oreal Paris, and they were only $10 each, I threw those bad boys in my cart.
They’re super hydrating and leave my skin feeling super soft, smooth, and like my skin has been touched by the God of hydration. So here I am, investing in my skin, and loving the results so far.
Next up, I’ve been looking for a perfume for a hot minute because I want to smell nice. There’s just one problem: I wasn’t about to drop $45+ on a perfume that I probably wouldn’t even like.
I was at Target the other day, noticed all the Sonia Kashuk products were on clearance, and I saw this little gem tucked away in the corner. I gave it a sniff and fell in love.
It has some deeper notes kind of like men’s cologne (which I’m obsessed with) but it still has a feminine touch to it. I love it, my boyfriend loves it, and the best part was it only cost me $6 because thank you Target clearance.
I’ve also been going a little crazy with the whole makeup thing. The other day, I channeled my inner Caitlyn Stone and did a live stream while I did my makeup. It was so much fun, and it gave me an excuse to talk to myself without seeming like a crazy person.
I’ve been loving Wet n’ Wild because they’re #crueltyfree and very inexpensive. I picked up most of these products at Walgreens, and I got a few from the Target clearance section.
Here’s what I picked up from them:
- PhotoFocus Foundation
- PhotoFocus Face Primer
- PhotoFocus Natural Finish Setting Spray
- Megalast Liquid Catsuit Matte Liquid Lipstick
- MegaGlo Contouring Palette
- Au Naturel Pallete in Nude Awakening
I don’t think there’s one product on this list that I wouldn’t recommend. The foundation is amazing (thank you Tati for the recommendation), the primer and setting spray keeps my makeup in place all day, the liquid matte lipsticks are to die for (and they’re only $5!?!), the eyeshadow palette is heavenly, and the contouring palette is pretty solid. Wet n’ Wild has really stepped up their game in the past few years, and I’m loving it!
As I’ve become more into doing my makeup and getting that skincare regimen on point, I realized that my eyeshadow brush collection was not holding up to my needs. I did a quick Amazon search, and I found these awesome brushes. They’re only $10 and the quality isn’t too shabby. I had to trim up some of the brushes, but overall, it was a solid purchase. 10/10 would recommend picking these up to grow your shadow brush collection.
I also just recently purchased a bunch of stuff from The Ordinary. I cannot wait for them to come in because as I said before, skincare is a top priority for me in 2018. Here’s what I purchased if you’re interested! I’ll be sure to post a review when I’ve tested them out.
- Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion
- Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
- Lactic Acid 10% + HA
- Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
There we go! Those are all my recent skincare and makeup purchases. Have you tried any of the products I mentioned? Have you tried out The Ordinary? I want to know what your current skincare regimen is!
