How to Survive High School: FRIENDS

Survive High School Friends

Welcome to my first installment of my “How to Survive High School” series! Today I’m going to talk to you about friends! Having a social life in high school is super important. It’s almost as important as doing well in school. Friends are an amazing resource for advice, moral support, and just overall entertainment.

If you’ve read my About page, you know that I’m an introvert. I have no problem announcing that because that’s just who I am, and I’ve learned to accept it. Because of this, I didn’t go to all the parties, or hangout on the weekends, or really get involved in things outside my comfort zone. I was one of those AP/honors kids who only spent time with other AP/honors kids. I lived in my little bubble, and I loved it.

Friends. They are your backbone. They’ll be there for you through the ups and downs and will always support you. I’m sure you’ve heard that you’ll most likely never leave high school with the same friends that you entered with. That is 85% true. A majority of my friends now have been my friends since the sixth grade. I’m lucky enough to have a solid group of close friends with whom I can share everything. (Did you see that right there. I used whom in a sentence. I’m a high school graduate and still don’t truly grasp how to use the word whom. I don’t even know if I used it properly. But I tried.) My friends were there for me through boy drama, friend drama, girl drama, breakups, prom drama, etc.

If you push people away, people won’t try to be friends with you. A simple way to be a good friend and keep your friends is to just be nice and accepting. If you can’t accept people for who they are, they’re not going to want to be friends with you, and chances are, you’ve missed out on a really awesome friendship. A majority of people that I clicked with in high school, I never thought I’d get along with them. I had this preconceived idea of who they were, but they never turned out to be who I thought they were. They all turned out to be amazing people!

Your friends and social life in high school can really make or break your whole high school experience. I was lucky enough to have an amazing group of close friends, and they kept me grounded throughout those four years. I laughed with them. I cried with them. I was able to be myself, and that’s super super important. Enjoy every moment you have with your friends because they won’t be in your life forever. Soon, you’ll all be leaving for college, saying what might be your last goodbyes. Don’t take your friends for granted!

Taking some time outside of CrossFit to drill down and focus on my weightlifting technique. Snatches and cleans have always been a little intimidating and I’ve been scared to push myself on them for fear of injury. Looking forward to seeing how my lifts progress over the next few months!

Oh, and mental health is doing fantastically, too!

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and we’re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! It’s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine 💁‍♀️

I was 9 months in to my fitness journey, tracked macros like it was my job, and religiously went to the gym 5-6 days a week. Seeing this pop up in my “Memories” was just what I needed today because being stuck at home because of my susceptibility to lung problems and #covid_19 has left me highly unmotivated to workout...
