How to Survive High School: RELATIONSHIPS

Surviving High School Relationships

I’ve been through high school. I’ve been in a relationship in high school. And I’m here to share the good, the bad, and the ugly with you. So this is my advice to you.

Yes, we’ve all seen the movies. The jock ends up with the nerd. The “ugly” girl is transformed into the prom queen and lands the hottest guy in school. Or the scariest guy in school gets paid to take out some girl’s sister so the new kid can date the younger sister. Sorry, I just couldn’t help but drop a 10 Things I Hate About You reference. That I my all-time favorite high school movie. But, anyways, back to high school relationships. The movies aren’t real–those things never happen. I would love if those plots actually happened in real life because I am a nerd. And that means I would end up with the hot, athletic guy.

I was in a relationship the final semester of my senior year. We had our ups and downs, but ultimately things just didn’t work out. Was it a good experience? Sort of. Do I wish it never happened? Kind of. I go into a bit more detail in my high school reflection post which is linked here and at the end of this post. But this is what I wish I would’ve know before getting into a relationship in high school.

Let’s face it. A majority of people never date anyone in high school, and that’s ok! Not dating someone in high school isn’t the end of the world. In fact, you probably avoided a lot of emotional stress.

But, if you’re lucky enough to be in a relationship in high school, have fun! You’re only a teenager once so enjoy it. But also be careful. You have to know yourself and know what you want. Know that you can’t change someone, and you shouldn’t get into a relationship with idea that you can change this person. A relationship built on that will not work. Trust me I know from experience.

For all of those who have yet to date someone, know this: you don’t need someone else to be happy. Figure yourself out and what you want. Don’t worry. Your Patrick Verona will come. Sorry. Couldn’t help another 10 Things I Hate About You reference.

Dating in high school is all what you make of it! Just know it isn’t the end of the world, and to be honest, friends are way more important than any boyfriend or girlfriend.

Taking some time outside of CrossFit to drill down and focus on my weightlifting technique. Snatches and cleans have always been a little intimidating and I’ve been scared to push myself on them for fear of injury. Looking forward to seeing how my lifts progress over the next few months!

Oh, and mental health is doing fantastically, too!

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and we’re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! It’s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine 💁‍♀️

I was 9 months in to my fitness journey, tracked macros like it was my job, and religiously went to the gym 5-6 days a week. Seeing this pop up in my “Memories” was just what I needed today because being stuck at home because of my susceptibility to lung problems and #covid_19 has left me highly unmotivated to workout...
