Summer Fun Here I Come
Oh wow. I tried a more creative title for today’s post, and I’m not too sure how I feel about it. Thoughts? Anyways, finals week is less than a week away, and that means I’m that much closer to moving out of college! Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the freedom of college. I don’t, however, like my current living situation.
So, here are some things I’m not going to miss once I move back home.
LOUD PEOPLE ALL THE TIME
Whether it’s drunk people screaming in the halls at 3 AM on a Monday night or loud music blaring from someone’s room, there’s no such thing as complete silence in a dorm/residence hall. Some one is always making noise no matter the time of day. I honestly can’t wait to just sit in silence.
CONSTANT BUZZ OF THE FRIDGE
This is one of the most annoying things about living in a dorm room. Usually, at home, you’re completely unaware of the noise that a fridge makes. But when you’re in such a small, confined space, that mini-fridge makes so much noise. It’s the constant hum. Oh man. I’m so looking forward to three months without that.
LIVING IN THE SAME ROOM AS ANOTHER PERSON
There’s a big difference with living with someone and living in the same room as someone. And that one room functions as a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a study room. Needless to say, I’m ready to have my own room again. Living in the same room as someone else is hard, especially when you have completely different sleep and study schedules.
ABILITY TO ACTUALLY BE ALONE
This goes along with the last one. I just want to be able to be alone. When you’re living in a dorm, you’re never truly alone. There are people living beside you, people living above you, people living below you, and people living directly across the hall from you. The freedom of being at home completely alone and being able to do whatever I want is one of the things getting me through the remainder of this semester.
FOOD
Oh. My. Gosh. I cannot wait to eat vegetables and fruit and real meat again! Dining hall food does nothing beneficial to me. It’s not good for me (say hello to the 10 pounds I’ve put on since August), and I don’t think that my brain functions properly while eating it. All of the preservatives, added dyes and flavorings, and added salt and sugar. I’ve never looked forward to eating vegetables and a grilled chicken this much before in my life. Seriously, I cannot wait to eat real food once again.
QUALITY SLEEP
This is the highlight of moving back home. There’s no one screaming in the hallways, there’s no sound of the fridge buzzing in the middle of the night, there’s no sound of someone slamming doors at 2 AM, there’s no sound of a snoring roommate, there’s nothing but silence. I may get 8 hours of sleep a night even while at college, but it’s not quality sleep. And let me tell you how much my body misses quality sleep.
Are you headed back home for the summer? If so, what are you looking forward to the most? I always think it’s interesting to see what other people miss while being away at college!
