A Fitness & Lifestyle Blog

Residence Life: August

Is it weird to say that I’ve been really excited for this first month of working in residence life since February? I knew that when I got this job as a resident mentor back in the spring and I knew that it’d add such a cool perspective to the whole college lifestyle world in which this blog exists. I don’t know if this is going to be a monthly thing or what, but I want to share the door decs and bulletin boards I’ve made thus far!

Part of the reason I wanted to be a RM was for the bulletin boards and door decs. I love crafting and DIYing so all of that was right up my alley. This month I have all of my back-to-school boards and door decs! I’m really proud of how everything turned out, and I have so many more amazing boards and door decs planned for the rest of the semester.

DOOR DECS

As a back-to-school, moving-away-from-home door dec, I thought doing something laundry related would be very appropriate. I was inspired by a pin on Pinterest that showed instructions on how to do laundry and showed what some of the symbols meant. I did my own spin on that and found a whole sheet of laundry symbols and taped that on an angle to some die-cuts I had.

I gave all of my residents the laundry symbols attached to the die-cuts and I made the resident mentors door decs just on the die-cuts. I love how they compliment each other while still being cohesive! A little pop of silver Sharpie really took them to the next level.

WELCOME HOME

My welcome home board had absolutely no theme at all. I knew I wanted to use that pretty coral colored paper and feature some of the welcome week events that were going on around campus.

I included some USC Gamecock die-cuts as well as a campus map to make it full of school spirit. I cut out the welcome letters by hand and also created the welcome week schedule. After welcome week was over, I traded the schedule out for some ways to get involved around campus.

RM ON DUTY

I came up with this board idea back in February and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. In case you can’t tell, it’s Monsters University themed! I love Monsters University and it’s especially fitting because we’re in college after all. I made each resident mentor a Monsters University student ID in Illustrator, cut them out, and then laminated them.

On the right hand side of the board, I have current events that are going on around campus. Right now, the big thing is sports so I have the schedules for men and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. This board stays up the entire year, so I’ll be changing out the information from time to time.

FIRE SAFETY

Wow. So many fire safety tips. This was the board before I attached some simple evacuation procedures and stuff like that. I made the script font myself along with the fire. This is low-key my favorite board at the moment.

I honestly can’t believe that my first month in residence life is almost over, and I’ll be changing out my bulletin boards soon! It’s been an amazing month so far, and I’m sure it’ll be an amazing year as well.

Were you ever involved in residence life?

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and weโ€™re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! Itโ€™s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ
