Fall 2016 Semester Goals

Ever since I started this blog back in June of 2015, I’ve written out my goals for each semester. There’s just something about solidifying my goals in a blog post that makes me more likely to complete them. This semester is no different, and the outcomes of my goals have definitely changed since last year. I’m focusing more on improving myself both mentally and physically instead of the social aspects of my life.

I was so focused on school and doing well last year, that I let my mental health fall. Instead of letting myself fall back into that place, I’ve set goals to keep me motivated, happy, and involved. After all, if I’m not happy with myself, how can I be truly happy around other people? Not only am I working on improving myself, I also have a ton of fun things lined up this semester! I can’t wait to see how everything turns out.

PERSONAL

Keep up with my gym routine

If you’ve been reading this blog for the past couple of months, you know that I’ve become slightly addicted to fitness and working out. After gaining 10 pounds my freshman year and feeling awful about how I looked, my dad offered to get me a trainer for the summer. Not only did I lose almost all of those 1o pounds, but I also gained the knowledge and confidence to head to the weight room at the gym. Maintaining my 3-5 gym sessions a week is ultimately what I’m aiming for to keep my confidence high and my mental state happy.

Go to brunch monthly

What a goal, right?  This is a cover for me to force myself to get out of my dorm and explore some awesome places that Columbia has to offer. I’ve already been to brunch twice this semester with my amazing friend Rebecca, and we’re so ready to go more! But, I’m limiting us to once a month because my wallet can’t afford weekly brunch dates.

SCHOOL

Make all A’s and B’s

This is always a goal of mine every semester. I know I set high standards for myself in everything I do – work, school, this blog, friends – and this is just another one of those. I know that this semester is going to be a huge change from what I’m used to, but I still want to aim to make all A’s and B’s.

No procrastination

I was actually really good about this last year. I would set my own due dates for assignments a few days prior to when they were actually due, and it made sure I had them done and had time to look back over the work. I’m going to strive to do this again this semester.

RESIDENCE LIFE

I am working in residence life this year as a resident mentor, and it’s definitely added some stress to my schedule, but it’s also been the best month of my life. I have a great floor, great coworkers, and great supervisors.

Host two non-mandated events

I’m only setting one goal for residence life this semester because I don’t want to over-commit myself. Of course I’m going to strive to get to know my entire floor and help them develop a home here at Carolina, but I also want to help them bond with each other. Although we have required floor meetings every few weeks or so, I want to host a few events myself. Movie night, cookies & board games, cupcakes… I don’t know exactly what I’m wanting to do, but I just want to do something!

What are some of your goals for the upcoming semester? Do you set goals per semester or per year? Whatever your goals are, you’ve got this!

Taking some time outside of CrossFit to drill down and focus on my weightlifting technique. Snatches and cleans have always been a little intimidating and I’ve been scared to push myself on them for fear of injury. Looking forward to seeing how my lifts progress over the next few months!

Oh, and mental health is doing fantastically, too!

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and we’re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! It’s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine 💁‍♀️

I was 9 months in to my fitness journey, tracked macros like it was my job, and religiously went to the gym 5-6 days a week. Seeing this pop up in my “Memories” was just what I needed today because being stuck at home because of my susceptibility to lung problems and #covid_19 has left me highly unmotivated to workout...
