Unpacking
If there’s one thing in life that I despise more than packing, it’s unpacking. I just moved back home for the summer, and let me tell you, I have a ton of unpacking to do. Not only do I have to unpack clothes and dishes and toiletries, I also have to unpack my mind if that makes sense. I was really struggling with a post for today because I’ve been sick with strep throat and a really bad sinus thing. I’ve been staring at all of this stuff that I have to unpack, and I just decided why not write a post all about something that I’m dreading.
Unpacking is no fun because for the past week, I can’t find anything. I can’t find my underwear. I can’t find my shorts. I can’t find my shaving cream. It’s like a game trying to find anything in this mess (as you can see from the picture, I’ve made a complete disaster out of the house).
The dishes never end. I don’t know why I had six coffee mugs, twelve containers, and countless drink cups, but I did. And all of those need to be washed. It never ends.
I‘ve realized how much stuff I have at home that I just don’t need. This is actually a good thing. I’ve been decluttering and creating huge piles of things to give away. From shoes I never wear to clothes that don’t fit anymore, I question why it was a good idea to keep it all in the first place. Hopefully with all of the stuff I’m no longer using, someone will benefit!
I mentally need to unpack my constant stressed out mentality. While this is helpful during the school year because I get a lot of stuff done under pressure, there’s no need for stress in the summer. I just need to take a step back, take a deep breath, and relax. After all, I did just make it through my first year of college (yay!).
Half of the stuff I don’t need during my summer at home so it just goes right back in the box that I unpacked it from. This is super frustrating because in order to find my pens, for example, I have to unbox the entire box of office supplies. Then I have to pack it all back up.
So much laundry. Seriously. So much laundry. It’s not that I had a ton of dirty clothes, it’s that I’d wear something once and it wouldn’t be quite dirty so I’d put it back in my closet. But, since I’m home and laundry is free, why not go ahead and wash it.
I love being home for the summer because I can be myself in my own environment, but the unpacking is too much. Hopefully by the end of this week it’ll all be settled and I won’t be living in a constant state of “where is ______.”
What are your feelings on unpacking? Please tell me I’m not the only one that can’t stand it lol. Have a great summer!
