August 2019 Monthly Favorites

Alright friends, we’re throwing this back to the OG blog days where monthly favorites were a regular occurrence on almost every blog. I stopped writing them awhile ago, but as I said in my 4 year blogiversary post, I’m wanting to bring the blog back to its roots. Sharing what I love, sharing what I’m up to, and sharing my passions.

Okay so I actually just looked up the last time I did a favorites post, and it was June 2016… Y’all that was 3 years ago! Holy freaking moly.

Life Update

I’m only covering what happened in August because *spoiler alert* a coffee & chit chat post is coming with updates about my summer. Anyways, August was a whirlwind of a month. It started out in Denver, Colorado. I flew out there to do some web development work with my uncle’s design company and to drive my brother back to Tennessee. He was out in Vail, Colorado, all summer as a raft guide and living out of his car so I was blessed with the opportunity to help drive him back. 19 hours in the car, and 2 days later, we were back in Knoxville. I actually didn’t mind the trip all that much because my brother and I haven’t really had a bonding experience quite like that. It was genuinely so fun.

As far as work goes, I decided to say “screw this” to the whole job search thing because it was giving me so much unnecessary anxiety and stress and depression. I’ve officially started my own business as a web developer & designer and social media manager. I just landed my 2nd social media client two weeks ago 🎉 I will say starting up my own business is a lot harder than I thought, but it’s genuinely so rewarding.

Teeny Tiny Terra Cotta

In August, some of my tiny succulent propagations were ready to be moved from their growing trays into their very own terra cotta pots. And I needed a lot of little pots… 36 to be exact.

I ordered these off of Amazon and they came in perfect condition! None of the pots were broken or even slightly cracked. They’re such a great size, and for the price, I couldn’t beat it! Highly recommend if you’re in the market for terra cotta pots.

Bullet Journal

Since starting my own business, I have a whole lot of things to keep track of, and my Happy Planner just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I loved my Happy Planner so much for school because the days were divided and I had enough room to write down assignments, meetings, due dates, etc. Now, my daily planner functions as a planner, a to-do list, important notes, and anything else that is relevant to whatever job I’m working on at the moment.

If you’re an OG blog reader, you may remember I tried my hand at bullet journaling a few years ago, but I quickly fell out of that. I was focused too much on making the spreads look pretty than I was on the actual functionality of the bullet journaling system.

Now, I’m a lot less focused on how it looks and more about how it performs. I’ll gladly dedicate 30 minutes of my time to set up and draw my simple daily and monthly spreads for the next 3 months. Plus, I do love drawing and doodling and all that sort of thing so it’s a good fit for me!

Giant Pothos

I may or may not have saved a giant pothos from the clearance rack at Lowe’s for $8. Yes, $8.He is thriving and living his best life by my fireplace, and I love him so much. He’s beautiful. That’s all I have to say.

Find him on my Instagram.

LECA Balls & Semi-Hydro

I’m slowly converting my houseplants to that soil-free life because I was tired of fungus gnats, root rot, and dirt being all over my house. I heard about semi-hydro from @minamalisticali on YouTube, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

The transition has been a long one, and I’m battling to keep a few of my plants alive and thriving. Two of my pothos are not doing so hot and I’m just over here like “aren’t y’all supposed to be the plants that are hard to kill??” I guess not. But aside from those two plants, the rest of them are THRIVING.

My prized hoyas are loving their life, and most of the rest of my plants are as well. Such a great decision, thb.

That’s it for my monthly favorites. I forgot how much fun these posts are! I’m stoked to be bringing this old-school blog series back!

I Updated Old Pinterest Graphics and My Views Tripled

Oh man. It’s been so long since I’ve actually talked about blogging on here! It’s been over a year since I directly addressed the topic, and it’s been about two years since I was regularly posting my tips & tricks to navigate the blogging world.

I’ve been doing this whole blogging thing for over 4 years now, so everything is essentially on autopilot. I write new posts and keep my Tailwind queue full, and that’s about it.

Since making the leap of starting my own business and working for myself full-time, I realized that I also need to be dedicating as much effort to my blog as I do my business if I want it to succeed… okay maybe not the same amount of effort, but I generally need to dedicate a bit more time to have my blog succeed. The first step to making that happen was to look at my analytics and refresh my older blog content that was doing well.

Focusing on My Top Posts

The first step I took was to look at my top posts in Google Analytics. Typically, college posts are the most popular for me and are what drive the majority of my traffic.

Updating Pinterest Popular Posts

From my analytics, I could see that the following posts should be my #1 priority when updating old graphics:

  1. Daily Study Routine
  2. Buy This, Not That: College Dorm Edition
  3. College Note Taking Tips
  4. Here’s How to Stay on Top of Your Assignments
  5. College Items Worth the Splurge

** Here’s a little tip if you’re wanting to create content that is popular on Pinterest. Pinterest users typically start searching for specific things about 1-3 months in advance of the actual event. This goes for major holidays, events, and things such as starting college or heading back to college. I don’t know about you, but when I went off to college, I was scouring Pinterest for advice before I finished my senior year of high school. So in terms of college-related posts like dorm decor, dorm essentials, doing well this semester, and so on, June/July/August are prime months for those topics. If you’re wanting to target the college audience, publish college relevant stuff during that time. **

Creating New Graphics

During this time, I was listening to a lot of what Katherine McDermott from the Swipe Up podcast. She works started her own business doing influencer PR and is killing it, so when she said she was focusing on Pinterest, I knew I should probably focus more on Pinterest as well.

There’s a bunch of stats out there that talk about creating the ideal Pinterest graphic and specific techniques to use to capture the user’s attention. A big she mentioned was to use warmer colors like reds, pinks, oranges, and such. They apparently are much more effective than using cool colors like blues, greens, etc.

The Old

As you can see, the Pinterest images were all over the place. They didn’t have much of a consistent theme, they were lacking in overall attractiveness, and they no longer fit the current branding of Living the Gray Life.

These posts were written over a span of two years. A lot of blog changes and rebranding happened during those two years which definitely attributed to the hodgepodge of cover images.

The New

I look at these and my mind just goes “ahhhhh”. They’re so much more appealing, and they 100% fit the current branding of Living the Gray Life.

I took some inspo from the cover images of some of my favorite bloggers (Gabby I’m looking at you) and integrated those aspects into my designs. I stuck with warmer tones and colors that enhanced the images rather than being a distraction.

Uploading to Pinterest & Scheduling

I feel that there are two ways to go about doing this. 1. Add the new pin to the posts on the blog and then save to Pinterest from there or 2. Upload the new pin directly to Pinterest and assign the URL and caption in the Pinterest pin creator.

I opted for option #2.

By uploading directly to Pinterest, I could optimize the pin description and add hashtags without messing with the alt tag of the image if I uploaded it to the blog first. If you didn’t know, you’re actually not supposed to use the image alt tag to hold your Pinterest description. There’s a different tag called pin-description that you should use on your images instead…

I’m trying to figure out a way to make a widget or plugin that I don’t have to pay for that will create a new text box on the media uploader to allow me to add the pin description without having to go into the code of the image. Did that make sense? Probably not and I definitely went on a bit of a ramble there. Okay, back to the actual topic of the post.

The Results

At first, I didn’t think much of it. I remember pulling up my analytics on July 26th and seeing the spike and traffic. That’s when I knew I’d done something right.

Updating Pinterest July 2019
Updating Pinterest Aug 2019

As you can see, my views jumped tremendously. There was a point where I hit 5,000 views in one day. Like what?? Hello? Is this real?

I know this spike in traffic won’t last for forever, and the trend is already starting to die off. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that what I did actually worked.

This little experiment goes to show just how important Pinterest is in driving people to my blog and just how powerful Pinterest is. Knowing the results of this, I don’t think I’ll let Pinterest slip to the back burner as much anymore, and I will 100% be keeping my eyes on my analytics more often.

Moral of the story: your analytics are your friend and don’t disregard the valuable information that they provide. I’m still in shock that what I did actually had such a strong impact on my traffic. I definitely won’t be ignoring the signs any time soon, and I will 100% be implementing this on some of my other posts as well!

5 Houseplants That Are Perfect for Beginners

5 Houseplants Cover

I’ve had a few people DM over on the Instagrams about houseplant care, thinking of me whenever they see plants, and just general curiosity about plants. I’ve been a little reserved to share my love of plants on this blog because it doesn’t really fit into the whole fitness thing, but you know what? This is my blog so therefore I can post whatever I want.

A lot of people think caring for a plant is hard. There are essentially two categories of which new plant parents fall into and they are as follows:

  1. I will shower (quite literally) my plants with all of the love and attention and water because plants need water so more water is better, right?
  2. I purchased this plant and stuck it on top of a bookshelf in a dark corner to add some greenery to the space and then I forgot about it…

If you are either one of those, don’t worry! I have plants for you that will thrive under your care.

A big part of plant parenting is accidentally killing plants. I’ve killed a few in my time as a plant parent, and it’s pretty disappointing every time it happens. But each death teaches you a little more about the needs of that specific plant and how to better care for it in the future!

Houseplants for Beginners

5 Houseplants For Beginners 1

The Snake Plant

Snake plants are so freaking cool to me. They have such a unique shape that they act like sculptures wherever you put them.

They can tolerate lower light, but they do best in medium to bright indirect light. These are the plants you can place on a bookshelf or on your desk or in your bathroom and they will do just fine!

They require minimal water thanks to their succulent-like leaves. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.

The ZZ Plant

This is probably one of my all-time favorite “place it and forget it” plants.

These guys are similar to snake plants where they tolerate low light and require minimal water. If I have a dark corner, this is what I’m putting in it. They do great in bathrooms, on shelves, above the fireplace, and really anywhere you can think.

I originally had mine in my old bedroom which was pretty dark. It was thriving and put off so much new growth.

5 Houseplants For Beginners 5

Cacti

My fascination with plants first started with a cactus. It was one of those grafted cacti with the green stem and the colorful ball on top… My parents actually got that for me after my high school boyfriend broke up with me LOL

Cacti are great for higher light situations. They can full sun to bright indirect light. They do best outside during the summer and then if they’re brought inside when overnight temperatures drop to 50 or below.

  • Minimal water
  • Best if placed on a windowsill where they receive the most amount of light

Succulents are also an option for beginners, but I find them to be a lot more finicky than cacti. A lot of newbie plant parents start out with succulents, but they put them in a space with not enough light and the succulent starts to stretch. This can happen super fast so that’s why I don’t recommend succulents for super-duper beginners. After they start to stretch, you have to behead them and propagate which is something that most beginners are intimidated to do.

5 Houseplants For Beginners 4

Pothos & Philodendron

These plants are so much fun! They’re trailing plants which means you’re going to be living in an insta-worthy jungle in no time.

You can buy these in 4-inch pots all the way up to beautiful hanging baskets. They like medium to bright indirect light and are perfect to put on a bookshelf, your office desk, and above kitchen cabinets. I have all my pothos in my awesome hanging plant shelf.

I have managed to kill a few of these in my time as a plant parent from overwatering. So a note to all you overwaterers out there, wait until the foliage is limp before you water. Then water thoroughly. This should help avoid overwatering.

5 Houseplants For Beginners 2

Monstera Deliciosa

If you want to have an insta-worthy plant in your life, this is the plant for you.

Surprisingly, Monstera Deliciosas aren’t that challenging to take care of. They love medium to bright indirect light and average waterings. They’re not super finicky and are super fast growers.

They develop super cool fenestrations which are the holes in their leaves. These tend to develop after the 3rd or 4th set of leaves on the plant. They’re a great statement piece to have, and they’ll make all your Insta posts even cooler.

I hope these suggestions are helpful for you if you’re looking at getting your feet wet when it comes to plant parenting. If you have any questions about what plant would best fit your space, feel free to leave a comment below!

Which houseplant newbie are you? The one who showers your plants with love or the one who buys and forgets?? I want to know!

3 Years of Fitness

This post is sponsored by Vie Active. All opinions are my own. Thanks to you, I have the amazing opportunity to work with brands that I love, and in turn, collaborations like this make Living the Gray Life possible!

Img 7682

Three years ago, I was a depressed college student who had finished up her freshman year. It was by far the most mentally and emotionally challenging year of my life. I moved 300 miles away to a college where I knew absolutely no one. I did not get along with my roommate, suitemates, or fellow dorm floor residents. Everyone wanted to go out and party all the time, and I was not into that lifestyle. I focused all of my efforts on classes, had zero friends, and was eating Chick-fil-a and grilled cheese with french fries every day to make myself feel better. I felt so extremely lost and confused. After all, those were supposed to be some of the best years of my life. And there I was eating away my pain. I couldn’t wait to move back home for the summer.

RELATED: Moving Out of College Vlog

My parents know me best, and no matter how hard I try to hide my emotions in front of others, my parents can always tell when something is bothering me. My dad knew that I was extremely unhappy, and it didn’t help that I’d gained the “freshman 15”. He’d be harping on me to start lifting weights and doing stuff other than walking on the treadmill for an hour. He saw me being home for the summer as an opportunity to introduce me to the world of fitness and weight training. So, he took me to a personal training studio in Knoxville and signed me up for 8 weeks of training. I went every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 6 AM. Those early mornings filled with so much sweat truly changed my life.

Fast forward three years, and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my entire life. Of course, there have been ups and downs over the past three years. There were spans of inconsistency and lack of motivation, but there were also months of time where all I wanted to do was be the fittest I’ve ever been.

Consistency

If I could sum up my fitness journey thus far in one word, that word would be consistency. I’m not talking about consistency from day to day or even week to week sometimes. Heck, there were months where I was extremely inconsistent. But, what does count is the consistency over weeks, months, and years that has gotten me to where I am today.

I’m physically stronger than I’ve ever been, I love my body more than I ever have before, and I’m the happiest I’ve been probably in my entire life. Fitness has shown me that I can truly accomplish anything I set my mind to.

Where Am I Now?

Originally when I wrote this post two months ago (when it was closer to my 3 year fitness anniversary), I was pretty down on myself. The overall tone of the post was nothing but negative. Not exactly what I wanted to put out into the world.

I just graduated from college, I was kicked out of my campus gym, and I was home all day with no job. Definitely a depressing situation.

I was driving myself crazy and I knew I had to do something soon. I was tired of my usual gym routine… it was lonely, I felt like I wasn’t making much progress, and I no longer felt like I was being challenged. The last thing I wanted to do was start paying for a gym membership at one of the typical gyms and be back to being unmotivated.

I was craving community. I was craving a challenge. I was craving a change.

And that’s when I finally decided to pull the trigger and sign up for CrossFit. If you read my First Week of CrossFit Experience, you’ll know that I had my mind set on CrossFit for a while. It seemed like just the change I was looking for, and more importantly, there was a community to be apart of.

There are certain moments from my journey over the past three years where I sit back and think to myself, “This is where I’m supposed to be right now.” Starting with a trainer after my freshman year. Working at a gym the summer after my sophomore year. Signing up for CrossFit.

I’m two months in to CrossFit, and I’ve been going about 3x per week. I plan on upping my days in the near future because I genuinely miss it on the days where I don’t go.

In the past two months, I’ve seen my mentality towards what I think I can’t do change dramatically. I’m capable of doing a lot more than I thought I was. I love the community. I love the challenge. I love not having to plan out my own workouts. I love the popsicles after intense workouts. I love the encouraging nature of every single member. I love being yelled at if I’m being lazy or not pushing myself. I’ve loved watching my body transform in both strength and appearance. I truly love it all.

CrossFit is the start of another chapter of my fitness journey. I’m so excited to see how I progress over the next year. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start to enjoy running… Anyways, this is another chapter in my life that I can’t wait to share!

Because of your support through my fitness journey and allowing me to share my life online through this blog, I’m able to work with some pretty awesome brands. I only found it fitting to work with a brand for this post because working with brands like Vie Active was something I never thought was possible. But here I am living my dream, and it’s all thanks to you!

These pieces from Vie Active are some of my faves in my collection. The Rockell Dotty 7/8 leggings are perfect for those higher intensity workouts and heavy lifting thanks to their compressive nature. As for the sports bras, I’m an absolute sucker for anything with beautiful back details. These were no exception. The burgundy Sunny Bra is a bit more supportive and is great for jumping, running, and all sorts of activities. The black Lacey Bra is a bit less supportive but still gets the job done for my CrossFit workouts. All of the pieces I received were not only perfect photoshoot material, but they’ve also survived many a workouts! 10/10 would recommend the investment.

I want to give a HUGE shoutout to my gym, Cottontown Crossfit, for allowing me to come shoot one afternoon. An even bigger thank you goes to Eva from Eva Kathleen Photography for the stunning photos. Comprehensive Short Review: Tough Mode Women’s 3″ Short

This post includes affiliate links. It doesn’t change the price of the product, but I receive just a little bit in return. Links like these are what help keep Living the Gray Life up and running! Thank you for your support 🙂

Tough Mode Womens Short Review Cover Img

I find it challenging to find spandex workout shorts that are comfortable AND affordable. I’m on a pretty tight budget when it comes to buying new workout clothes so I’m always on the lookout to find pieces with the biggest bang for my buck.

In this series, I’m going to cover all different kinds of spandex shorts for CrossFit and the gym. Each review will consist of the following categories: material, sizing, fit, ride up ability, camel toe, sweat proof, squat proof, comfort, quality, and value. I will hold nothing back in these reviews. Be prepared for my full, honest opinion!

Tough Mode Women’s 3″ Short

These shorts are found on Amazon and have an average rating of 4.3/5. The best part is they’re under $20 per pair. Is this too good to be true??

They offer two styles of shorts: solid colors and patterns. This review will be broken up into two sections based on those styles. The materials differ slightly between the solid colors and patterns. I find it necessary to go into detail about both.

For reference, I am 5’2″ and around 125 lbs.

Solid Colors

Shop the Solid Colors

Price: $15.99

Material: 85% Nylon/15% Spandex

Sizing: XS through XL

Fit: Runs true to size

  • Tough Mode Womens Short Review 5
  • Tough Mode Womens Short Review 6

Please ignore the chalk on these 🙂 I wore them earlier this week and didn’t have a chance to wash them before photographing them…

Ride Up Ability: I do find that these ride up A LOT. I don’t know if I got the wrong size, but if I have to run in them, my butt cheeks like to make an appearance so I’m constantly pulling them down. I’m tempted to run a bead of silicone around the bottom seam to help them stay in place a bit better.

Camel Toe: None. I could see some camel toe developing if the shorts are too small.

Sweat Proof: No. Showing sweat is not a big deal to me, but if it is to you, I’d opt for the darker colors or patterns.

Squat Proof: 100% yes. Squat, snatch, clean, and deadlift to your heart’s desire because your butt will not be on display to the rest of the world.

Comfort: SUPER comfortable. They feel like a second skin. I would wear them all day every day if I had enough pairs.

Quality: 9/10. Material is on the thinner side but still remains squat-proof.

Are they worth the money: Yes, yes, yes.

Patterns

Shop the Patterns

Price: $20.99

Material: Thicker fabric than the solids. I think it’s 85% Nylon/15% Spandex

Sizing: XS through XL

Fit: Runs a tad bit small. Recommend sizing up. I usually wear a small in bottoms but I sized up to a medium. They fit great around the thighs but there is a slight gap in the waist due to sizing up.

  • Tough Mode Womens Short Review 7
  • Tough Mode Womens Short Review 8

Ride Up Ability: The patterns don’t ride up as much as the solid colors probably due to them being a bit of a different fabric. I’m still tempted to run a bead of silicone around the hem to help with them riding up.

Camel Toe: None. I could see some camel toe developing if the shorts are too small.

Sweat Proof: Yes. The patterns do a great job at masking sweat.

Squat Proof: 100% yes. Squat, snatch, clean, and deadlift to your heart’s desire because your butt will not be on display to the rest of the world.

Comfort: Very comfy but not as comfy as the solid colors. The material on these is a tad thicker which makes them feel a little less like a second skin. Still SUPER comfy.

Quality: 9/10. Stitching is very secure and the fabric is very nice quality.

Are they worth the money: Yes, yes, yes.

Final Thoughts

I think these shorts are a great, affordable option for people looking for CrossFit shorts or general spandex workout shorts. I am 100% going to be purchasing many more pairs of these shorts. I love how the fun prints can easily brighten up a workout outfit, and the solid colors are a great staple option for those days where I’m not feeling as peppy.

If you’re in the market for some new spandex shorts, I highly recommend these. They have a 30-day free return policy so if you get them and aren’t in love with them, you can easily return them!

I hope you enjoyed this first installment of my comprehensive short review series! I have several other brands on my radar to try out, and I cannot wait to share them with you 🙂

Want to Start Your Own Podcast?

This post contains affiliate links. The price of the item will not change… we just get a teeny tiny percentage back when you shop through the links in this post!

Advice For Starting A Podcast 2

If you’re late to the game here, you should know that I have my very own podcast! Well, I share it with my blogger bestie Caitlyn.

We just kicked off our 3rd season, which is kind of hard to believe. Throughout our first two seasons we shared very personal stories about struggles with periods, we laughed at our hilarious Tinder dating stories, and we had some epic podcast guests. We are stoked for what season 3 has in store!

Girls Talk started in July of 2018. That means we’ve been doing this whole podcast thing for almost an entire year. I’d say we’re pretty experienced, right?

We’ve definitely learned so much from day 1, and if you’re looking at starting your own podcast, I hope that this post is helpful! I’m sharing everything we use from recording and editing software to the microphones and pop filters. We’re all about free and working on a budget so none of the stuff mentioned in this post is outrageously expensive.

Hosting Services

This did not even cross our minds when we thought about starting a podcast. I thought we could just upload the episodes to Spotify and iTunes. Caitlyn thought we could host the episodes on our blogs but that runs into logistical issues when you have two people on running the podcast, and we didn’t want to waste all of our website storage on podcast episodes.

We searched through Google to find free or inexpensive podcast hosting plans. Lucky for us (and for you), we stumbled upon this awesome service called Anchor.

Record or upload high-quality audio, host unlimited episodes, and distribute everywhere with just one click. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, there’s never been a better way to podcast.

The best part? Anchor is free!

Anchor is basically a one-stop-shop for all things podcasting. You can upload episodes, edit descriptions, see your stats, and best of all, Anchor publishes your podcast to ALL of the podcast services. It may take awhile in the beginning to get your podcast everywhere, but eventually, you’ll be cleared on every podcast service. Once your podcast is established, Anchor can even match you with sponsors!

Basically, Anchor is amazing. If there’s one thing we highly recommend to anyone, it’s Anchor.

Editing Software

You can be a total savage like Katy Bellotte from the podcast Thick & Thin and record your stuff in one take and upload it straight from there. Or you can be like us and make a lot of mistakes and cut a bunch of the ‘ummms‘, ‘likes’, coughs, and sneezes out of the episode.

We went with the free audio editing software called Audacity.

Any audio editing software will work just fine. For us, we just need to be able to record, edit, import our intro/outro, and export.

Just like with any other hobby, you can get as intense with the editing as you want. Because ours is a lifestyle podcast, it doesn’t require heavy editing. But if you want to get into the logistics of normalizing tracks, messing with the EQs, and stuff like that, you can easily do that with Audacity.

How do we record while living in 2 different states??

I give all of the credit for this find to Caitlyn.

When I brought up the idea of possibly recording a podcast together all the way back in July of 2017, Caitlyn started researching about how we could record together without it being this giant headache.

She found this awesome application called Zencastr.

Zencastr is free, but there are pricing options as well if we ever choose to outgrow the free tier. We have 8 hours of recording per account. Caitlyn and I both have an account so that equates to 16 hours of recording time per month… That’s one way to cheat the system a little bit LOL. A free account is able to record tracks with two additional users– that’s enough for Caitlyn, a guest, and me.

When we first started recording, we exclusively recorded via Zencastr. Eventually we found the audio quality of the recordings wasn’t up to the standard we were looking for. We still use Zencastr to talk to each other while we’re recording episodes, but we record directly into Audacity.

We will probably switch to using another interface for talking in the near future just so we’re not limited on the number of guests we can include.

Microphones & Hardware

First and foremost, I want to say that you do not need to go out and purchase equipment to record your podcast. You can easily record podcasts using your phone via Anchor’s mobile app. Their mobile app even allows you to have guests on your podcast. Like we said earlier, Anchor is practically your one stop shop for all things podcasting.

Advice For Starting A Podcast 1

My recording setup is around $100. That’s not too bad in all honesty. Just like with any hobby, you can go out and drop a grand on equipment and supplies just to sound slightly better than a more inexpensive setup. We’re not recording this to be a high-level production so entry-level products do the job just fine!

Not going to lie, I’m also one for aesthetics so I splurged on Prime Day and picked up the Amazon Basics Professional USB Condenser Microphone. The little stand that came with the mic wasn’t doing much for me. Luckily I found this mic stand and pop filter set for a very reasonable price.

Intro Music

Finding music can be a fun adventure but a legal nightmare.

Make sure you check on the licensing for the particular track you want because you can’t use just anything you want for your podcast music. There are different licenses for different uses. Stick with Royalty Free and you should be good to go.

For a more in-depth look at music for podcasts, check out this awesome roundup post by We Edit Podcasts.

Unless you’re willing to pay for podcast music, you’re not going to have the highest quality intro music. We found ours for free on Soundcloud.

If you’re looking for more info possibly from actual professional podcasters and not just newbies, sites like The Podcast Host are fantastic resources that will provide you with an abundance of information about starting your own podcast.

Taking some time outside of CrossFit to drill down and focus on my weightlifting technique. Snatches and cleans have always been a little intimidating and I’ve been scared to push myself on them for fear of injury. Looking forward to seeing how my lifts progress over the next few months!

Oh, and mental health is doing fantastically, too!

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and we’re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! It’s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine 💁‍♀️
These photos were taken THREE YEARS AGO... honestl These photos were taken THREE YEARS AGO... honestly it feels like yesterday. I was 9 months in to my fitness journey, tracked macros like it was my job, and religiously went to the gym 5-6 days a week. Seeing this pop up in my “Memories” was just what I needed today because being stuck at home because of my susceptibility to lung problems and #covid_19 has left me highly unmotivated to workout...
