Dorm Room Tour: Fall 2016

Y’all it’s finally here! This semester has gone by so fast that when I looked at my calendar and saw that it was November and I’d yet to publish a dorm room tour post, I about died. I also about died when I looked around my room and saw the disastrous state in which it is currently in and realized I had to make it look Pinterest-worthy in a matter of hours. So, as you can guess from those few sentences, my room is rarely organized, put together, and pretty 24/7. In fact, this is the nicest it’s looked since August so…

A lot of the decor I made myself, and a majority of the bedding, rugs, accessories, etc were purchased for my room last year. Since they were still in perfectly good condition, why not use them for a second year! After all, shopping your own stash is much cheaper and easier than going and buying everything new. All the pictures below include descriptions with links to where you can find the items and/or links to the posts where I crafted said items. Alright, well if I wait any longer, it’ll be January and this dorm room tour will be irrelevant.

Upgrade Your Space

Looking to upgrade your dorm decor? Want to make your space appear more sophisticated and grown up? Check out how to use frames to upgrade your space.

When I moved to college this year, I knew that I wanted to do something different with my dorm room. I didn’t want that typical, poster-covered college dorm room that a majority of people have. There’s nothing wrong with having that, in fact, that’s basically what my freshman dorm room looked like! But, I wanted my room this year to feel more like an apartment and less like a college dorm room.

So, I started thinking, “Is there a way for me to make my room feel more like an apartment and less like a dorm? Is there a way for me to display all of my hand lettering pieces? And most importantly, can I use this idea in my room next year and in future apartments?”

After sleuthing through Pinterest for a few hours (let’s be honest, it was more like a few days), I found my answer. There’s one major difference between how college students decorate their space and the way young twenty-somethings decorate their apartments, and to me that one difference transforms a dorm room into a home.

Say hello to framed pictures and prints. [Read more…] about Upgrade Your Space

A Daily Study Routine

Struggling with finding time for friends and school while in college? Here's a daily study routine that works for me to make those A's and B's!

The other day I had a little heart to heart with myself. I need to get my life back on track. This blog is slowly falling off my radar, my grades aren’t up to the standards that I set for myself, and although I love my co-workers and friends, I’m spending way too much time socializing. After all, I’m paying quite a bit of money to go to school and get a degree, and it’s time to start making school more of a priority again. I’m embracing my inner freshman year Abigail and getting back into solid study habits.

There’s something to be said about having structure in my life. I function better, I’m more organized, and I’m more productive. In order to make it through the semester and still get those A’s and B’s I’m setting out to get, here’s the study routine that I’ve created for myself.

A Fitness Journey Never Ends

The gym has changed me. The gym has changed me not just physically, but also mentally. I no longer look at myself, critiquing my body every time I pass by a mirror. I don’t hate how big my calves are in comparison to my thighs. I no longer feel the need to find something wrong with my body. I spent too many days, months, and years disliking parts of my body hoping it’d magically fix itself overnight. Guess what? It won’t.

Achieving fitness goals in college & how the gym saved my life

Body confidence had been an issue for a while. I’ve always been a small, petite person, but people always commented how I needed to put on weight because I looked too small or how I was so short or how my hair looked better straight than curly. Yeah those comments bothered me, but they bothered me more when I gained 10 pounds freshman year. I know 10 pounds may not seem like a lot of weight to some people, but I went into my freshman year weighing 110 pounds, and that 10 pound gain is close to almost 10% of my body weight. My freshman year was more difficult than good – struggling to fit in, not getting along with floor mates, and feeling isolated and lonely. Add a 10% weight gain to that, and life was awful. I felt terrible about the way I looked, wishing the weight would just go away. [Read more…] about A Fitness Journey Never Ends

October Recap

Happy November! Like I say every month, I can’t believe October flew by as fast as it did. It was full of emotional ups and downs, travels across the USA, and good times with friends and family. I let the blog slip a bit last month, but I have so much amazing content planned for November. Plus, the holiday season is almost in full swing!

Life Update

October, what a month. It started out just like any other month – classes going alright, busy with RM stuff, and hanging out with friends. But then, the world decided to take October in a whole different direction. In the first full week of October, Hurricane Matthew decided to strike and we were out of school for three days. Luckily Columbia was not hit hard at all and we were able to resume life as normal. Strangely enough, the hurricane hit almost a full year after the devastating flood in 2015. The following week was fall break which was much needed, but so much unnecessary drama occurred that it almost didn’t seem like a break. I was able to go home, hang out with family, and go shopping for my exciting week in Houston. [Read more…] about October Recap

A Fall Photoshoot

Somedays, after a long, emotionally draining week, you just need to throw on a cute outfit, a powerful lip color, and killer shoes and have a photoshoot. That’s just what I did about a week ago after I arrived back in Columbia after almost a week in Houston.

A fall photoshoot on the historic Horseshoe | Columbia, SC

I love the Horseshoe here on campus and have been wanting to do a photoshoot there for a while, but I never had someone to take my pictures. These photos were taken by one of my besties on staff. She also let me borrow her beautiful lip color (which is Bordeaux Beauty by ELF and is only $3!).

Haven’t posted a mirror selfie in probably a year Haven’t posted a mirror selfie in probably a year and a half... feeling proud of my progress 💪🏼

Also, stress painted my nails last night because I was so nervous for a job interview I had today... anyone else feel like they suck at job interviews??

Taking some time outside of CrossFit to drill down and focus on my weightlifting technique. Snatches and cleans have always been a little intimidating and I’ve been scared to push myself on them for fear of injury. Looking forward to seeing how my lifts progress over the next few months!

Oh, and mental health is doing fantastically, too!

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and we’re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! It’s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine 💁‍♀️
These photos were taken THREE YEARS AGO... honestl These photos were taken THREE YEARS AGO... honestly it feels like yesterday. I was 9 months in to my fitness journey, tracked macros like it was my job, and religiously went to the gym 5-6 days a week. Seeing this pop up in my “Memories” was just what I needed today because being stuck at home because of my susceptibility to lung problems and #covid_19 has left me highly unmotivated to workout...
I honestly forgot how productive I am whenever I w I honestly forgot how productive I am whenever I work from a coffee shop ☕️ No pantry full of food, no comfy bed, and no opportunity to take a nap. Working from home is great and all, but it can be so distracting 😂
