Grace Hopper Celebration 2016

On October 18th, I packed my bags, hopped on a plane, and headed to Houston, Texas for the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. The Grace Hopper Celebrations is the world’s largest gathering of women technologists, and thanks to my university, I was lucky enough to be able to attend. I not only wanted to write this post to talk about my amazing experience this past week, but I want to share why it’s important for more women to be a part of the tech field.

I personally love conferences, especially business conferences, because they give me an excuse to wear heels, do my makeup, and look nice. As a college student, it’s rare that I get to wear something other than shorts/jeans and a t-shirt. I’ll take any excuse I can get to do my makeup! This was my first time ever traveling to Texas, and I actually really enjoyed myself. Half the time I just felt like I was still in another part of Columbia because we spent a majority of our days inside. But, from what I saw on our daily bus rides, I really love Houston! And, it’s the only city I’ve ever been too that was hotter and more humid than Columbia, SC.

Morning Skincare Routine

Clear skin has always been a dream but never a reality for me. I had the typical middle school acne, high school was a little better, and I still struggle with the occasional break out now and then. I’ve tried a lot of products over the years that promise to “clear up your skin” or “erase blackheads for good,” but NOTHING ever seemed to work. I’ve found that what I do in the mornings, is essential for having clean skin. Today I’m going to share with you my morning skincare routine.

I have some new and old favorites incorporated into my morning skincare routine, and those include:

  • Clarisonic Mia 2
  • Clean & Clear Essentials Foaming Cleanser
  • Target Acne Face Wash
  • Target Face Lotion
  • Clarisonic Deep Pore Daily Cleanser
  • Clarisonic Detoxifying Clay Mask

Hurricanes & Painting

Rainy days = hot tea, warm blankets, and art projects. No homework, no stress, just a good time spent with friends. This post is going to serve as a little life update and also a look at some of the art projects I’ve been working on.

In case you missed it, Hurricane Matthew struck the East Coast of the Untied States this past Thursday and Friday and impacted cities all along the coast. The University of South Carolina canceled classes starting Wednesday through the remainder of the week, and while the break was nice and all, I was so unproductive. I could’ve started on homework, written so many blog posts, or finished my major project for the blog. Instead, I took naps, hung out with my fellow staff members, and wasted my days. But, maybe that’s what I needed. Life has been so hectic since school started, and maybe I just needed some time to myself.

September Recap

Y’all how in the world is it already October?? I swear just yesterday it was August and I was in residence life training. It feels like I blink and three months have gone by. The days seem like they last forever but the weeks are flashing by. I’m sad to see the summer end, but I’m pumped for cold mornings, blanket scarves, and everything pumpkin.

Subtle Ways to Decorate Your Space This Fall

Happy Fall! It’s now officially fall according to the calendar which means that I don’t sound like a crazy person obsessing about fall way before the fall season. Bring out the boots, sweaters, scarves, and pumpkins because I am ready. Sadly here in South Carolina, the weather is still a humid 85 degrees almost every day so the fall wardrobe isn’t in my daily life just yet, but that doesn’t mean I can’t cover my room in fall decor.

For some reason, I’m so pumped about fall this year. I’m not usually a fall person because that means have to be bundled up 24/7, but this year I’m stoked for that. It might be because the weather doesn’t cool off in South Carolina until mid-November and I’m just ready to not be sweating through my clothes multiple times a day. I have a room to myself this year giving me plenty of room to decorate for the holidays. Plus, fall is a season which gives me a good three months to keep the decorations up. Alright, enough rambling about how much I love fall, and let’s just get into some of the fall-themed items I’ve included in my room this year!

A Little Bit About the Blogger Roundtable

Y’all I love blogging so much. I’m writing this late on a Sunday night after the second Blogger Roundtable, and honestly I couldn’t be happier. Blogging has changed my life and being able to talk face to face with the people who motivate and inspire me is one of the greatest feelings in the world. You may be asking yourself, “What is this post even about?” and “What on earth is the Blogger Roundtable?” I’ve spoken a little bit about it in the past on Twitter, in monthly recaps, and on my YouTube channel, but today I wanted to dedicate a whole post to a project that I’ve fallen in love with.

about-the-roundtable

I was inspired to start the Blogger Roundtable back in July after participating in so many Twitter chats but always wanting to talk face-to-face with other bloggers. Talking behind Twitter handles is great and convenient, but there’s just something about actually seeing the person you’re talking to. And with that, the Blogger Roundtable was born. I chatted with a few other bloggers about the idea, and everyone seemed to love it.

Taking some time outside of CrossFit to drill down and focus on my weightlifting technique. Snatches and cleans have always been a little intimidating and I’ve been scared to push myself on them for fear of injury. Looking forward to seeing how my lifts progress over the next few months!

Oh, and mental health is doing fantastically, too!

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and we’re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! It’s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine 💁‍♀️

I was 9 months in to my fitness journey, tracked macros like it was my job, and religiously went to the gym 5-6 days a week. Seeing this pop up in my “Memories” was just what I needed today because being stuck at home because of my susceptibility to lung problems and #covid_19 has left me highly unmotivated to workout...
