Residence Life: August

Is it weird to say that I’ve been really excited for this first month of working in residence life since February? I knew that when I got this job as a resident mentor back in the spring and I knew that it’d add such a cool perspective to the whole college lifestyle world in which this blog exists. I don’t know if this is going to be a monthly thing or what, but I want to share the door decs and bulletin boards I’ve made thus far!

Residence life door decs & bulletin board ideas

Part of the reason I wanted to be a RM was for the bulletin boards and door decs. I love crafting and DIYing so all of that was right up my alley. This month I have all of my back-to-school boards and door decs! I’m really proud of how everything turned out, and I have so many more amazing boards and door decs planned for the rest of the semester.

Fall 2016 Semester Goals

Ever since I started this blog back in June of 2015, I’ve written out my goals for each semester. There’s just something about solidifying my goals in a blog post that makes me more likely to complete them. This semester is no different, and the outcomes of my goals have definitely changed since last year. I’m focusing more on improving myself both mentally and physically instead of the social aspects of my life.

semester-goals-fall-2016

I was so focused on school and doing well last year, that I let my mental health fall. Instead of letting myself fall back into that place, I’ve set goals to keep me motivated, happy, and involved. After all, if I’m not happy with myself, how can I be truly happy around other people? Not only am I working on improving myself, I also have a ton of fun things lined up this semester! I can’t wait to see how everything turns out.

Creating A College Dorm Gallery Wall

Coming back to college this year, I knew I wanted to do something a little different with my dorm room. Last year’s decor was great, but I wanted to make my room look a little more mature and not like a typical freshman year dorm. That meant getting rid of the posters and cliché canvases and switching to something more eclectic that I can change out whenever I want!

Want your dorm room to feel more homey? Create a gallery wall! See what I use to make my gallery wall, what items are perfect, and the end result.

Gallery walls can be made as large or as small as you need which is why they’re perfect for a dorm. I don’t have a roommate this year (a perk to being in residence life) which means I have four blank walls to cover. By the end of the year, this gallery wall will probably cover my entire room, but right now I just have it focused over my desk. Plus, I want something pretty to look at when I’m slaving over homework, so the desk is a perfect place!

First Day of College Essentials

Happy official back-to-school everyone! I started classes yesterday, and with every first day of school comes some first day essentials. For those of you who may be heading to college for the first time this year, the first day is super intimidating, scary, and exciting all at the same time. But, don’t fret! I’m here to share my first day of class college essentials because there’s nothing worse than showing up unprepared.

College Essentials for the First Day

First off, embrace and enjoy syllabus week. Syllabus week is the first week of classes because you don’t really do much except go over the syllabus (hence the name). Your professor may mention the class expectations, whether or not you need the textbook, and other important factors for you to be successful throughout the semester.

Clearly there’s not much you physically need for that first day, but success in college comes from a lot more than just a notebook and pretty pen.

College School Supplies

Long time no see Internet friends! After a week off, life has finally settled down and I’m back to blogging. If you want to hear all about what I’ve been doing the past week, be sure to sign up for my newsletter! Thanks to a Twitter poll, today’s post is all the school supplies you need for college. Well, this is everything I use and swear by!

College School Supplies | What you really need and what you really don't

The idea of shopping for school supplies in college can be a bit stressful, especially if you’re the oldest child and have no idea what to expect. College isn’t like high school where you have a locker to shove all the stuff you don’t need. You, instead, pack everything in your bag for the day – textbooks and all. Buying school supplies in college comes down to saving space and portability.

College Packing Tips & Tricks

It’s that time! You’ve successfully bought everything you think you need for college and you’re ready to start packing. There’s just one problem: you have no idea where to start. The buying and planning are the fun parts, but the packing just straight up is no fun at all. But, don’t worry! I’m here to show you how I manage to get all of my stuff from my house to my dorm room in one piece with as little headaches as possible! I moved into my dorm just yesterday, and I took lots of pictures along the way and I’ve included them into the post.

College Packing Tips & Tricks for a Successful Move In

First off, the most important this is to not overpack. Yes I know. Trying to get incoming freshman to not overpack is like arguing with a brick wall. It’s just the fact of the matter. But, if you’ve checked out my Ultimate College Packing List, you’ll know exactly what you need to bring and what you can leave at home! None of that extra, unnecessary stuff that a lot of the Pinterest articles cover.

Taking some time outside of CrossFit to drill down and focus on my weightlifting technique. Snatches and cleans have always been a little intimidating and I’ve been scared to push myself on them for fear of injury. Looking forward to seeing how my lifts progress over the next few months!

@cattyelizabeth5 and I are back after 3 long months, and we’re so excited to share the first episode of season 5 of Girls Talk! It’s a good one and a pretty great way to spend an hour of your quarantine 💁‍♀️

I was 9 months in to my fitness journey, tracked macros like it was my job, and religiously went to the gym 5-6 days a week. Seeing this pop up in my “Memories” was just what I needed today because being stuck at home because of my susceptibility to lung problems and #covid_19 has left me highly unmotivated to workout...
